Playa del Carmen offers a wide variety of diving experiences, most of them drift dives thanks to the Caribbean currents that flow year-round.
How we plan your dives in Playa del Carmen
Each trip is planned around your certification, recent experience, preferences and sea conditions. Before confirming the activity, we review which type of dive best suits you.

When you contact us, tell us your certification, approximate number of dives, date of your last dive and available dates. You can also combine these trips with cenote diving from Playa del Carmen.
Its waters hide shallow coral reefs perfect for beginners, several shipwrecks at intermediate level, and for divers who enjoy going deep, dive sites along the Drop-Off Wall, where you can explore endless walls in search of larger marine life that doesn't usually appear at closer reefs.
Reef marine life
The reef's health in the Playa del Carmen area varies by dive site. At some sites you'll find healthy coral that attracts large schools of fish and the classic reef wildlife: moray eels of different species, lobsters, pufferfish, angelfish and butterflyfish, among others.
Three types of dive
- Shallow reefs — ideal for beginners and a great first taste of the Caribbean.
- Shipwrecks — intermediate-level diving on wrecks close to the coast.
- Deep Wall — vertical walls for experienced divers looking for pelagic species.

We answer your questions
What's the difference between diving Cozumel by speedboat or by ferry?
Cozumel is a small island located off the coast of Playa del Carmen, with ferries connecting both locations every hour in both directions.
If your goal is to explore the island in addition to diving, the ferry option is best. We give you all the instructions to cross from Playa del Carmen and meet you directly at the Cozumel dive center, returning around 1 pm so you can stay and explore the island and head back to Playa whenever you like — or even spend the night in Cozumel if you plan consecutive reef diving days.
If you don't feel the urge to explore the island, the express speedboat option is easier. We depart from Playa del Carmen first thing in the morning, do two dives off Cozumel with the proper surface interval, and return to Playa around midday.
In both cases the dive sites are the same, chosen on the day according to sea conditions — only the logistics change.
What's the difference between diving Playa del Carmen and Cozumel?
Cozumel is famous for its incredible coral, strong daily currents, and exceptional visibility that turns your view deep blue as soon as you jump in.
Playa del Carmen, on the other hand, has two reefs: a closer, shallower one (between 6 and 12 meters) ideal for first dive experiences, and a deeper one further out (over 18 meters) with beautiful dive sites where the coral isn't as spectacular as Cozumel's but hosts plenty of marine life.
Although the current tends to be stronger in Cozumel, Playa also has days with moderate-to-strong current. For this reason, all dives are drift dives, with the boat picking us up where the dive ends.
Can we do a night dive?
Absolutely. Night dives in the Caribbean Sea are varied and very different from day dives. We just need a minimum of 4 participants to organize the trip, and we can do night dives off Playa del Carmen and Cozumel.
